I used to dream of candy stores,
lemon drops for free.
Colorful sugar spores,
sprouting sweets for me.
Once a year, Grandmother
would get me all to herself.
Then, against the wishes of my mother-
We'd choose candy from the shelf,
of a true candy store.
All I could imagine--
white chocolate and more
to fuel, my child's engine!
No wonder, they still haunt my dreams-
chocolate covered caramels and creams.
This brings back memories of visiting hole-in-the-wall candy storesand old-timey general stores while on vacation and also the candy sections in those big department stores in downtown Seattle, The Bon Marche and Frederick & Nelson, both of which are gone now.
ReplyDeleteThat's where we would go! To some big Mall in Oakland, Cal! It was a magical place to me, from little old Oroville, Wa... ;)
